New LotFP adventure (no spoilers)

I played in James Raggi's new Lamentations of the Flame Princess adventure last night with Zak, Mandy, Aberrant Hive Mind, and Higgipedia. I'm given to understand that this will be the new introductory adventure for the Grindhouse edition of LotFP. I think the adventure will be successful in that role because it:
  • starts gently, and invites the players to root their characters in the world
  • asks the players to think deeply about the situation by not providing them with an easy, obvious course of action
  • shows the players that their actions have significant ramifications in the broader game world (recalling a favorite Raggi theme, though without locking the referee into quite such a catastrophic outcome in this case)
While my impressions are from the perspective of a player, and this was not the final version, I can confidently say that, as much as I enjoyed Stargazer, this new adventure uses a similarly familiar trope to create far more engaging play situations for both the players and the referee.

  1. It was a great time and the adventure certainly has long-term ramifications. I can't wait for it to be released fully so I can work it into my sandbox.

  2. Yes, it's definitely one I'll be running for my players at some point.

  3. I may run a "Part 2" where Mandy's character has heard "from a friend" about strange happenings in the countryside and knows everything that her other character found out.

  5. @Aberrant, you actually didn't miss too much of the session. We called it quits maybe an hour after you dropped off. There's clearly a biggish chunk of the adventure that none of us saw.

We didn't kill you and take your stuff. Though you may be in for a surprise when you wake up...

The new character should at some point be sure to discover the gruesome fate that eventually befell all the characters from last night.

No way, I'm keeping Gorgut, even if I have to transfer him to another system.

  10. Whenever I play I feel like I have to weigh the urge to ham it up vs, the urge to let everybody else play--it's especially bad on Skype, where if you talk over people it's just hopeless.
